One Sunday morning an old man entered a church just before services were to begin. Though his clothes were spotlessly clean they were old, worn and quite a bit ragged. In his hand he carried a worn out old hat and an equally well read Bible.
The church he entered was in a very upscale and exclusive part of the city. It was the largest and most beautiful church the old man had ever seen. The people of the congregation were all dressed with expensive clothes and jewellery.

As the old man took a seat, the others moved away from him. No one greeted, spoke to, or welcomed him. They were all appalled by his appearance and did not attempt to hide it.
As the old man was leaving the church, the preacher approached him and asked the man to do him a favour. 'Before you come back in here again, have a talk with God and ask him what he thinks would be appropriate attire for worship in church.' The old man assured the preacher he would.
The next Sunday, he showed back up for the services wearing the same ragged clothes and hat. Once again he was completely shunned and ignored. The preacher approached the man and said, 'I thought I asked you to speak to God before you came back to our church.'
'I did,' replied the old man.
'If you spoke to God, what did he tell you the proper attire should be for worshiping in here?' asked the preacher.
'Well, sir, God told me that He didn't have a clue what I should wear. He said He'd never been in this church.'

ReplyDeleteNice one Rainy. How come the richer ones never see the light.??
They have every right to wear the clothes they wear, but what they fail to understand is that it makes them no better than Mr Average.
Good night

Hey Mr. Z,
ReplyDeletePray all is well with you.
Here are some thoughts I have. Tell me what you think when you have the time to respond.
Man is difficult to understand and woman is impossible.
Our centre of our existence should come from our spiritual being with its enormous energy and substance which both propels and stabilises us. Unfortunately we are mostly disconnected from this energy and substance we know as God.
To the modern man connecting through ourselves with God is not easy because of a number of reasons. The life of modern man has made us in a sense hollow and we need something to cling on to give us a sense of being.
We substitute God with materialism. Materialism is visible and mostly offers instant gratification.
Generally those people that have succeeded and earned wealth and fame by hardwork, innovation, ingenuity, and perserverence know, they are blessed and supported by greater unexplicable forces and therefore quite humble. It is those hollow people that get the fruit by just clinging on to these great people that have the undeserving wealth , fame and power. These are the people that will fight tooth and nail to preserve what they have got.
Man makes the money, money doe not make the man, but these hollow people have yet to wake up to that reality.
Cheers
Rainy

ReplyDeleteIf one has accumulated wealth and substitutes God with material things, then its quite likely that person is a "taker". If that same person is a "giver" as well, then the chance to connect with the Almighty is far greater. When you give freely without ever wanting in return, it frees the soul.
What makes anyone hollow is that they have either lost or not found their soul at all or more importantly are looking for true meaning in the wrong places. Their search continues....
I must sleep now as Ive taxed my spiritual mind for the week.
Pleasure as always keeping in touch with you.
Cheers

ReplyDeleteWe all love Sardar jokes. But do you know that Sikhs are one of the hardest working, prosperous and diversified communities in the world! My friend told me about the following incident which I wish to share with you. It has had a deep impact on my thinking...During the last vacation, a few friends came to Delhi . They rented a taxi for local sight-seeing. The driver was an old Sardar and boys being boys, these pals began cracking Sardarji jokes, just to tease the old man. But to their surprise, the fellow remained unperturbed..At the end of the sight-seeing, they paid the cab hire charges. The Sardar returned the change, but he gave each one of them one rupee extra and said,''Sons, since morning you have been telling Sardarji jokes. I listened to them all and let me tell you, some of them were in bad taste. Still, I don't mind coz I know that you are young blood and are yet to see the world. But I have one request. I am giving you one rupee each. Give it to the first Sardar beggar that you come across in this or any other city !!!"My friend continued, "That one rupee coin is still with me. I couldn't find a single Sardar begging anywhere."MORAL:The secret behind their universal success is their willingness to do any job with utmost dedication and pride. A Sardar will drive a truck or set up a roadside garage or a dhaba, run a fruit juice stall, take up small time carpentry, ... but he will never beg on the streetsBecause Sikhs contribute:* 33% of total income tax* 67% of total charities* 45% of Indian Army* 59,000++ Gurudwaras serve LANGAR to 5,900,000+ people everyday!& All this when THEY make only 1.4% of the total INDIAN POPULATION...
